We’re thrilled to announce Julie Goo as the Irish language guest editor for HOWL New Irish Writing 26.

Julie Goo is a bilingual poet and writer from Cork City whose work moves through languages, forms, and media. Her writing has been published widely and her debut poetry collection DÁNA was published by Coiscéim in 2021 under the name Julie Field.
Julie’s work has reached audiences well beyond the page. Selected poems have been translated into English, German, and Italian, and have been chosen by Poetry Ireland as part of the Guth na hÉigse competition across secondary schools. She is also deeply engaged in collaborative and interdisciplinary practice as a member of the queer Irish language artist collective AerachAiteachGaelach, and one half of the bilingual electronic hip hop duo shelovescalpol.
Julie brings a sharp editorial eye, a strong commitment to contemporary Irish language writing, and an openness to work that takes risks formally, politically, and musically. We’re excited to have her reading and shaping the Irish language submissions for HOWL 26.
Julie joins a strong tradition of Irish-language editors at HOWL. Previous guest editors include Thaddeus Ó Buachalla, winner of the An Post Irish Book Award for Irish Language Book of the Year, and Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh, whose work has been recognised nationally and internationally, including selection as Ireland’s EU Presidency Poem and shortlisting for RTÉ’s A Poem for Ireland.
Submissions for HOWL 26 will be open February 13th – 23rd, accepting poetry, fiction, and non-fiction in both English and Irish. Full guidelines will be available on the site when the window opens.
We’re really looking forward to reading your work.
